Plant For The Planet
Germany
Our Mission

Trees are the cheapest and most effective means of binding CO 2 , allowing us more time to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero. In Mexico, Plant-for- the-Planet plants a new tree every 15 seconds. This project demonstrates just how easy it is to make planting trees so effective on a large scale. For a donation of 1 Euro, they plant and take care of one tree.

Our Story

Plant-for-the-Planet started with a boy doing his homework! The children and youth initiative was launched in 2007. At the end of his school presentation, nine-year-old Felix Finkbeiner from Germany announced his vision to his classmates: “Let’s plant one million trees in every country on Earth!” In 2011, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) handed over the Billion Tree Campaign to Plant-for- the-Planet.

So far, more than 63,000 children and young people have been trained as Climate Justice Ambassadors to give speeches and motivate people to plant trees. With the help of many adults, they have already planted more than 14 billion trees.

Our Future

The goal of the children and youth initiative Plant-for-the-Planet is to collect pledges for 1,000 billion trees by 2020. You can donate for trees on your own! Each year, one tree in average binds 10 kg CO2. By giving speeches, the children motivate governments, companies and others to plant trees. You can support the training of the children by donating for the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation. As Felix said in his speech at the UN General Assembly: “One mosquito cannot do anything against a rhino, but a thousand mosquito can make a rhino changes its direction.”
